Ok, I'm new here. Posted this somewhere else earlier, but can't find it.
Have a question.
I tried to access "all comments" on the comments page and received a message that I did not have sufficient permissions to access that area. Is that because I only joined the list and am not yet an HRWA member? Was kind of confusing.
Earlier, I posted an inquiry about an ambitious trip that my 15 1/2 year old son has proposed. We're both big baseball fans and he came up with the idea of kayaking from Manhattan to Fishkill to go to a Hudson Valley Renegades Class A minor league game in Wappingers Falls. Aside from the need we'll fill for back-up from friends and family, I am curious to hear from the veteran HRWA members about the feasibility of this trip. I realize it will take at least a couple of days of serious paddling with overnights required at camp grounds along the way or otherwise. Am VERY open to insights and suggestions.
In addition, we are not kayak owners, so we will need to rent a tandem and some gear. Can anyone make any suggestions in any of these areas?
I can be emailed off-blog at amgardneresq@gmail.com.
Thanks in advance for your responses. I'm sure that they will all be helpful in some way or another.
Best,
Alan Gardner

This is a great resource I had no idea existed. Thank goodness for Google!
My son has challenged me to plan a trip from Manhattan to Fishkill, at the end of which, we are to attend a Hudson Valley Renegades game in Wappingers Falls. Any expert opinions out there on just how long a trip like this will take? With the tidal changes and distance, I'm figuring at least two days, starting out on a Friday late afternoon. Very open to all suggestions, including where to camp out/stay Friday and Saturday nights (looking to the parkland at Croton on the Hudson as one stop.
All thoughts are well appreciated. Will also need info on where we can rent equipment, including a 16 foot, 2 person, ruddered kayak with ample enough space to stow our gear/food items.
Thanks!

Wheelchair Access

I am a novice kayaker and was taken aback the Hudson River Water Trail Guide and this website contains no information about wheelchair access. I have found the hardest part of kayaking is accessing the Hudson River. Accessible launch sites such as Annesville near Peekskill are all too rare. Information such as this is important and must be included. The river is supposed to be for all citizens, those that can walk and those that use a wheelchair.

Does anyone know of a place in Albany - someone's backyard would be ok - where we could store a small 5' by 8' kayak trailer for 4 days during the Albany to Manhattan paddle? July 3-6

Where do we post Hudson conditions? As I mentioned, a friend and I was camping on Stockton Middle Ground and I'd like to report that the outhouse there is halfway washed out, like there is about a 10ft section before the outhouse coming from the campsite that is completely washed out and filled with blowdown and debris. What used to be a trail from the campsite is now really overgrown and almost unusable without boots and long pants. Also, why is the outhouse so close to the water????? this goes against what I've always understood where privies and outhouses should be.
